Developer, Level and UI designer
Welcome to High Score High, the school that perfectly replicates the typical student experience: puzzles and boss fights. With the clock ticking down between each class, our students must sprint from room to room solving puzzles, answering quizzes, and defeating the enemies that wait ready to ruin somebody’s Wednesday. Use power-ups, and sheer willpower to get through the course and make it to the final exam. Will you pass with flying colors? Or is a big F looming in your future?
Don’t Fail the Course is a 2.5-pixel art dungeon crawler game set in a high school which merges combat and puzzles in a fast-paced gameplay environment. As part of the Development team, I worked on the game’s design and implementation.
In the beginning stages of production, I assisted the team in group brainstorms, where we designed the main level and required mechanics. I was responsible for most of the written copy in the GDD that would describe and outline these design choices, which other departments would later use to develop the final assets.
Additionally, I was also the main lead in the UI design and implementation. I worked with our UI asset artist to develop any menus, interactions, or icons for the game. Then, I used Unity to implement and code the functionality of each of the UI elements, like health bars, responsive icons, and a minimap which tracks the player and enemies in real-time.
